Average Hearing Loss

A hearing loss can be mild, moderate, severe or profound.

  1. Look at the audiogram.

  2. Write the number of dB in each purple box.

250Hz 500Hz 1000Hz 2000Hz 4000Hz
.....dB .....dB .....dB .....dB .....dB
  1. Add these numbers.

  2. Divide by 5.

  3. Look for the range
    Average Level of Hearing Loss
    21 to 40dB Mild loss       
    41 to 70dB Moderate loss
    71 to 95dB Severe loss          
     95dB +    Profound loss
