Checking Hearing Aids
Simple checks to do at home

Encourage children to do some of this themselves.

What to look for...

A mould on a hearing aid

The mould is clean and has no cracks.

Hearing aid tubing on a hearing aid

The tube is clear and flexible.  There is no water in it.

The hearing aid case

No cracks in the case

The switch on a hearing aid

No loose switches
What to listen for...

The battery in a hearing aid

The battery is working (the hearing aid whistles when it is not being worn!)
The sound (through a special device called a stetoclip) is clear and not distorted
No whistles when the hearing aid is in the ear
